Life of an Indie Author

I imagine if I were a full-time author, I would pop open a bottle of champagne every time I type "The End." But as an un-agented writer, things look a little different. Instead, I get out of bed, hop in the shower, and get ready for my day job. I share the news with a few people. They give the obligatory congrats, then go on with their day as well.

So, it's a little bittersweet. These characters have become like family. The story has been flowing through me for months, and now, I'm done. But the reality is, there is still so much work ahead. Editing. Rewriting. More editing. Drafting a query letter. Tirelessly sending out pitches to literary agents.

Typing "The End" on a first draft is the climactic moment of the journey for me. But I have faith that one day an agent will request a full manuscript, and I imagine that will be pretty damn climactic, too. So for now, I will continue to wait patiently and celebrate the little wins.

Even if I'm not popping champagne, I'm celebrating quietly. I'm excited to share that I just finished the first draft of Once Mine (Book One in The Mirror Lake Series).
