As I've been steadily writing my next book, Under the Hanalei Moon, I'm feeling a trip to Kauai is in order! (Update: Booked a trip!)

Under the Hanalei Moon promises not only to entertain but also to serve as a travel guide for a memorable vacation to Kauai. My love for the island began when my dad moved there. During my first visit, he introduced me to a variety of must-see spots, but my favorite was Hanalei, particularly Black Pot Beach. With its iconic pier and stunning mountain backdrop, the beach is a perfect setting for families picnicking, kids leaping off the pier to ride the waves, and a quaint town just a short stroll away.

In the summer of 1976, Maggie falls for Makai, a local surfer on the quaint island of Kauai. Their forbidden love is filled with stolen moments and the thrill of adventure, but it’s a romance complicated by family expectations.

Fast forward to today, and Emma, Maggie’s daughter, uncovers a treasure in her mother’s attic: a photo album from that fateful summer. Inspired by the images, she begins to paint, bringing the memories to life on canvas. Each stroke reveals a story of a past she longs to understand.

As Emma’s artwork gains attention, it catches the eye of Makai, who recognizes the photographs from his own memories. Curious and drawn to the pieces, he travels to California to uncover the truth about Maggie, their shared past, and a secret that threatens to tear Maggie's life apart.
